Sophia is an extremely talented artist who is trained in all apects of the entertainment spectrum. She has years of formal dance training under her belt, having studied modern, jazz, ballet and highland dancing. She has performed and competed in these various categories throughout North America winning over 140 gold, silver and bronze medals, and 12 trophy awards. She has also performed at Walt Disney World in Florida with the world renown Sheila Milne Dance Company. Sophia also has her Grade 5 Royal Conservatory of music for piano and has been learning to play guitar.
One of the first places that Sophia started singing was at her parents restaurant at age thirteen when she would go on in between sets of other bands and belt out four or five numbers.
Sophia has had roles in productions at the Roxy Theatre. She has been involved in such shows as "Anne of Green Gables", "Alice In Wonderland" and she had the lead role as Daisy Mae in the Strathcona production of "Li'l Abner". Sophia has performed at many functions and events. She has performed to sold out benefit concerts and school productions as well as weddings, funerals and memorials. The latter are the occasions where she is most honoured to perform. These occasions are monumental moments in families lives and the fact that they ask her to be a part of a day that they will remember for the rest of their lives is an honour to Sophia.
Sophia has recorded many covers of other artists since she began, but also a few original songs that her brother wrote specifically for her. The latest, "Caught In The Crossfire" has been well received, so well in fact that it has been featured on the local radio station along with an interview. The songs that are written specifically for her allow people to hear the real Sophia without comparing them to any original artist.
Sophia has also recorded several songs given to her by David Fromager, who has written with many famous Nashville songwriters, including Dewayne Blackwell, who penned "Friends In Low Places" for Garth Brooks. Sophia recorded "How Can I Change Things Now", which is written by these two talented artists.
In the past, Sophia has been tried her luck at the TV shows Popstars and Canadian Idol. Thanks to the popstars audition Sophia was featured in Star Struck Magazine (link can be found at the bottom of the NEWS section). Although neither of these contests resulted in a chance of a singing career Sophia is determined to go about it the old fashioned way (which these days, pretty much amounts to luck!(and exposure)). (She did make the 2006 Canadian Idol - See below).
Sophia's idols are singers who will always be considered classics. Celine Dion is at the top of her list! Ever since Sophia saw Celine in concert several times, she was inspired by the way one person can transport a crowd of 20,000 into another world just by listening to their music. Celine is also a great inspiration because she is not just a fad, but a well respected artist in the industry who carries herself with carisma, class and at the same time, she is incredibly grounded. Sophia strives to achieve this goal with every performance that she gives. Her other favourite artists, include, Etta James, Aretha Franklin, Johnny Cash, and many more.
On April 23rd, 2006, Sophia made it through to the Celebirty Judging panel of Canadian Idol.
Sophia is currently studying abroad for her Masters in Education.
Sophia is currently working on an album of all original songs written by herself and others, which will include "Every Good Song Ends" and "Saying Goodbye". You can hear the song in its entirety in the Music Section of the website.
